The Norilsk Division is Nornickel’s flagship asset, boasting a full metals production cycle from ore mining to the shipment of finished products to customers. Its operations are located on the Taimyr Peninsula in Russia, in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Region. Linked to other regions by the Yenisei River, the Northern Sea Route, and by air, the Norilsk Division operates the largest deposits in the Company’s portfolio.
*Excluding the comprehensive development of the Mayak Mine.
The Norilsk Division mines copper-nickel sulphide ores of three grades:
The Company’s largest copper-nickel deposits, Talnakhskoye and Oktyabrskoye, are developed by the Taimyrsky, Oktyabrsky, Komsomolsky, Skalisty, and Mayak Mines.
The Norilsk-1 deposit is developed by the Zapolyarny Mine (within the South Cluster project), through open-pit and underground mining.
All mined ores are processed at Talnakh Concentrator and Norilsk Concentrator. The resulting thickened concentrates are transported via slurry pipelines to the metals operations of the Norilsk Division for further processing.
Talnakh Concentrator processes rich, cuprous and disseminated ores from the Oktyabrskoye and Talnakhskoye deposits to produce nickel-pyrrhotite and copper concentrates, as well as metal-bearing products. The key processing stages include crushing, milling, flotation, and thickening.
Norilsk Concentrator processes all disseminated ores from the Norilsk-1 deposit, cuprous and disseminated ores from the Oktyabrskoye and Talnakhskoye deposits, and low-grade ores from Copper Plant to produce nickel and copper concentrates. The key processing stages include crushing, milling, flotation, gravity concentration, and thickening.
The precious metals produced by the Norilsk Division are refined at Krastsvetmet, Urals’ Innovative Technologies, and the Prioksky Plant of Non-Ferrous Metals under tolling agreements.
Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant processes nickel-pyrrhotite concentrate and metal-bearing products from Talnakh Concentrator, as well as nickel concentrate and pyrrhotite concentrate from Norilsk Concentrator. The plant produces converter matte and elemental sulphur.
Copper Plant processes all copper concentrates from the concentrators as well as third-party feedstock. The plant’s products include copper cathodes, elemental sulphur, and sulphuric acid.
Copper Plant’s metallurgical shop recycles sludge from the copper tankhouses of Copper Plant and Kola MMC, as well as copper cake from Nornickel Harjavalta, to produce precious metal concentrates, commercial selenium, and tellurium.
