International Curling tournament officially kicks off in the north of Krasnoyarsk Region
This year, there are four teams representing Russia. They include the teams of Anna Sidorova and Alina Kovaleva, as well as the team of Vlada Rumyantseva, this year’s world junior champion, and the Krasnoyarsk Region team headed by
Anna Venevtseva.“This is a unique event of a global scale. No one has ever done or does it in the world. This is the fourth time the curling event takes place here in Dudinka,” said Dmitry Pristanskov, State Secretary — Vice President and Head of GR at Nornickel, the general partner of the tournament, at the opening ceremony.
As emphasized by the Company’s top manager, sport is of great importance for Nornickel. “Nornickel is a major advocate of mass, children’s and youth sports along with high-performance sport. For us, social responsibility is not just a reporting obligation to feature in our annual report. This is the essence, the spirit and the reason behind what we do. The Company is committed to creating a comfortable ecosystem for residents, employees and every guest and visitor,” he said. “It was for a reason that I mentioned that many people are now proud of living on the 69th parallel or visiting the place. These tournaments attract tourists to the polar city and make it recognisable at the international level.”
“This is not the first stage of the Curling World Cup. Taimyr has already hosted similar competitions and did so on a very decent level. The tournament is gaining momentum year after year and I am confident that, once again, it will be a top-level competition,” said Sergey Alekseev, Minister of Sports of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
This year will also see a children’s curling tournament with teams from Norilsk and Dudinka.
The first international curling tournament was held in Dudinka in 2016. This year, the competition is held from 23 to 26 May.
