Nornickel has announced the launch of the Socially Responsible Initiatives Competition open to non-profit organisations, government and municipal agencies, and corporate volunteers. The grant fund totals USD 125 mln.

This year is the first time that the competition will be hosted in the Gazimuro-Zavodsky District of the Trans-Baikal Territory, at Bystrinsky GOK, one of the Сompany’s production facilities. It boasts state-of-the-art technologies and equipment combined with the best CSR practices, and features a Social Engineering Bureau set up in August with a view to engaging local businesses in social initiatives.

The competition invites projects promoting new methods and technologies of working with children and young people, development and enhancement of public spaces, environmental awareness, physical education and mass sports, conservation and restoration of cultural heritage, expansion of services offered by NGOs and other causes.

„Since the competition’s inception, we have seen a rise in social activity, expansion of NGO partnership network, and emergence of new leisure practices and large-scale local festivals involving polar residents,” said Svetlana Ivchenko, Head of the Social Policy Department at Nornickel.

The Socially Important Initiatives Competition aimed at supporting public initiatives and facilitating sustainable development is an important part of the World of New Opportunities charitable programme run by Nornickel since 2014. Over the four years, the Company received 1,576 bids for the competition, awarding grants worth of RUB 389.1 m to 410 projects.
